These are the standard unedited translations of Andersen.......some stories a bit gruesome for younger children "The Tinderbox" and the soldier about to be hanged by the neck until dead......needs careful reading aloud by an adult.
Perhaps not necessary for American children who seem to thrive on television violence and news of multiple shootings.
The illustrations are pen and ink drawings and few.
I could not discover the size of the book or what illustrations were in it or if they were in colour so bought it on the strength of the colour illustration on the cover...... sadly disappointed. This information should be available to a purchaser, but I suppose that is why we have bookshops so we can handle the merchandise before purchasing it instead of taking a trustful leap into the dark by buying on line..
