When this bestselling autobiography was originally released, readers were shocked: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell was the darkest, funniest, most controversial, and best-selling rock book of its time--and it became the template, both visually and narratively, for almost every rock book since. Marilyn Manson is not just a music icon, it turned out, but one of the best storytellers of his generation. Written with bestselling author Neil Strauss and modeled on Dante's Inferno, this edition of The Long Hard Road Out of Hell features a bonus chapter not in the original hardcover. In the shocking and candid memoir, Manson takes readers from backstage to emergency rooms to jail cells, from the pit of despair to the top of the charts, and recounts his metamorphosis from a frightened Christian schoolboy into the most feared and revered music superstar in the country. Along the way, you'll hear what happens to fans--and celebrities--who dare to venture backstage with the one of the world's most dangerous rock stars. In the words of Elle magazine, the book makes Madonna's infamous Sex seem downright wholesome in comparison.

Great Insight
I've read this book a few times and have loaned I been happier with a book.
This is a great insight to the whole world of Marilyn Manson. It details his rises and falls thorough life and the difficulty of what he is trying to achieve. Through this very well written book you see how a small boy turned into the much debated star of today.

Bizzare
This is an excellent read. Interesting to see how an above average kid from a good family and given great opportunities can take a different direction in life and then drop to the bottom and come back again. A good read to get some understanding of the person behind the visual shock of first impressions. The subject of considerable bad criticism unjustifiably so it seems. There is actually a very intelligent, caring person behind the persona that's hard not to like. Highly recommended......would be interesting to experience a concert.

Marilyn Manson: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell
Having read this manuscript 11 times, I now feel qualified to compose a few words regarding it's quality. First of all, Manson, also known by his given name, Brian Warner, has incredible talent in keeping the reader's focus. He told his life's story, however, as any good author would do, he did not give us the unnecessary details. In doing so, Warner stuck with what is important to him, and what has made him who he is. Furthermore, Brian/Manson made a point to describe his views on many of the most controversial issues in the world, such as religion, homosexuality, and legal matters. In addition, he offered the reader a chance to understand the truth, or lack thereof, behind several rumors started by his "fans." I would recommend this book to anyone, and have done what I can to fulfill this. So far, three people have borrowed it from me; while another friend has it right now. If its any indication of whether or not The Long Hard Road Out of Hell is worth reading, I have a "waiting list" containing the names of several friends who hope to borrow this book in the future.
