He's written so many (I'm a little over halfway through the lot) and it is so difficult to come up with a favorite, but if pressed, this would be the one. I had seen the movie, thought it was okay, but the pace and depth of the characters in the book...everything was just right to make it a wondrous tale of epic proportions. I gave the book to my Dad as an introduction to Stephen King, with some trepidation, but that was unwarranted, because not only did he read the whole thing, when he got done, he started right back in on page one for a repeat performance. How much better of a recommendation could there be?

"Green Mile" the masterpiece of Stephen King
If you watched the movie first, and then found out it was based off of a Stephen King book, your reaction was probably a lot like mine: Huh? Is there supposed to be an evil monster in here somewhere? It's Stephen King right, isn't that what he writes about? Now granted, I had never really read a King novel at that point, but I knew I just had to read "The Green Mile" after seeing the movie. Let me tell you: the movie does the book no justice. Don't get me wrong: the movie is probably one of the best adaptations of a book I have ever seen. But the book... the book moves you. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you angry. There's very few book I can say that about, and I don't want to sound cliche'. But this book is just that good. King will always be remembered for his horror novels, but I believe that "The Green Mile" should be remembered as his crowning achievement.
