This is the true story of the author, Alexander James, and his journey from childhood which began down a long gravel road. Alex was born out of wedlock and from birth was not wanted by his mother. He was a frail and sickly child. His grandmother Estelle raised him until he was five years old. Alex, along with his two older siblings that were also born out of wedlock, was whisked away at age five by his mother and step-father who neglected and abused him physically during childhood and psychologically throughout his life. Alex was taught to believe that he was stupid and incapable of making decisions, that he was less than his siblings and all others. Although he tried, he was never accepted by his family because of his sexual orientation. He was relentlessly bullied and tormented at home by his family and at school by his peers. His being bullied carried on throughout his life. This is the true story of his journey from his life of despair, agony and torment. Believing in himself and persevering against all odds, he dedicated his life to becoming a caretaker of others and defending their rights to be treated with dignity and respect. He battled many demons along the journey and came far from that long gravel road. His struggles will inspire others to never give up hope.
