This book was recommended by a cousin who understood where I am in the pantheon of religion and faith. What a great recommendation!
Just to clarify: several years ago, I realized that as an educated person the one very important book I had never read was the Bible, regarded as the greatest book ever written. So, I began one chapter at a time. The language can be obscure primarily because of the time when the Bible was written and the language which was ancient. After completing one reading, I went back and started all over again. The meanings became clearer. I wanted to know more. When was the Bible written? Who were the writers?
Adam Hamilton writes to communicate so that the reader will understand what he is saying. He knows his Bible. He is a pragmatist - his viewpoints and references make sense. His writing style is clear, to the point and leaves no doubt about what he wants us to understand. He presents other viewpoints where necessary and provides footnotes. For those who wish to go further, there are other books to read.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is beginning a search.
