I got this book as a counter to anti tax neighbors
With all the tax/no-tax rhetoric swirling around me, I found I have very little reliable information on which to base my opinions. Then along comes this book, like a gift from heaven. It is full of on-line references and charts with factual data to help me solidify my thoughts. The author is a sales-tax kind of guy and I am an income tax person, but I think he can make a good case. I still have to finish the book, but I am impressed with Bartlett's honest and in-depth approach to give him a full star rating even at this point. By the way, Bartlett seems to dismiss the strength of the income tax because we do not have a good definition of "income". I say, define income in the way an ordinary person earns payment for goods and services, and go from there. I am not fussy how a person earns his/her money--dividends, prostitution, wages, sales, drugs, gambling, whatever--just pay the just share in taxes, or else!
