In typical Whitney fashion
The one thing that I like about Phyllis A. Whitney's books is that they are predictable in the fact that each one is set up like the others--a little mystery, probably a murder, throw in a little romance, and a neatly tied up ending. Most of her books make for fairly easy, quick reads. I usually read more difficult, in-depth books so for me, I pick up her writing when I still want to read and yet don't want to become too involved. I didn't give this book a 3 because I really like the ease of reading and knowing kind of what to expect, but I didn't rate it a 5 because of the same reason.
