A gradiva is "one who walks". Gradiva was a fourth century BCE sculpture of a robed woman who lifts the hems of her skirts to stride forward. Gradiva is a story of a young archaeologist who suffered a mental disturbance and was gradually cured by a kind of native psychotherapeutic instinct.
