This is one of the worst books I have ever read. It is set during the French Revolution and the character is a complete anti-hero, running around creating problems and then leaving other people to suffer while he runs off to do something else. And in the end, he ends up being one of the murderous Jacobins of the revolution who cruelly rejects the man who cared for him and brought him up, allowing him to be destroyed by the revolutionaries.. The plot is interesting, but the main character is completely terrible. Don't even waste your time.
