The Migraine Brain, by Carolyn Bernstein, 2008, Free Press, New York. This is perhaps the most comprehensive as well as the most recent of the Migraine books I've read. Even so, it gives short shrift to the explanation of how the abortive medicines -- the triptans -- work. Like the Teri Robert book, this one guides the reader on how to talk to doctors ? what to tell them and what to ask them. It also gives a comprehensible explanation of the latest theory of what causes migraine: cortical spreading depression. In addition, this book includes the MIDAS scale: the Migraine disability Assessment. For those wanting to pursue a gentler, non-pharmaceutical approach, there is a section and it includes a good description of deep breathing and why it can help. 317 pages plus appendices.
