I have read many books about first hand accounts from Marines in the Pacific war, including Sledge's book "With the old Breed". This book is on parallel with that book and above most others. There are even a few chapters that evoke emotions while reading. I liked the book so much I have re-read it and have two autographed copies in my library and purchased a third to present to a close friend. If you are devotee of personal Marine history in the Pacific, this book will enthrall you. I kid you not!
