Excerpt from A List of the Sepulchral Brasses of England: Alphabetically Arranged in Counties In introducing this work to the public, the author fears it will appear presumptuous, as several of the same character are already in existence which claim attention from their superior merit; still he indulges a hope that the present may not prove altogether uninter esting, when it is found to contain a list of brasses considerably greater in number than any of its predecessors. Learning from the reports of the various Architectural Societies that these interesting memorials were rapidly decreasing in number, it occured to him that a more extended list might be acceptable. It has been carefully collected from the following works z - Cotman's Norfolk and Sufolh Brasses, Boutell's Monumental Brasses of England, The Oxford Manual, Manning's List, The Cambridge Camden Society's and Messrs. Waller's Brasses, Hudson's Sepulchral Brasses of North amptonshire, Stothard's Efigies, Gough's and Hartshorne's Sepal chral Monuments, Hollis's Monumental Efigies, The Gentleman's Magazine, Notes and Queries, The Archwolo'gical and the various Architectural Societies' Reports, and the following Topographical works - Nicholls' Leicestershire, Lyson's Magna Britannia, Blore's Rutland, Bridge's and Baker's Northamptonshire, Allen's Lincoln shire, Lipscomb's Buchs, Brander's Parish Churches, Fisher's Bedfordshire Collections, Clutterbuclc's Herts, Registram Rofiense, Moule's English Counties, Thoroton's Notts, Hoare's Wilts, Poul son's Holderness, Whittaker's Richmondshire, &c., &c. &c.
