Something that must be done daily, and that a task of no absolute necessity, even if it occupy three or at most five minutes of every day, is a burden on time and method which we suspect the majority of men are not equal to. Everybody at some time of his life begins a journal; but because it exacts a certain punctuality, and because the trouble promises no immediate return, and because, too, people get tired of the seeming monotony of life - and the mere bare events of most lives have a way of looking very monotonous when written down - it is, we believe.
