The first half of the book is slow introduction, but once the action picks up it doesn�t stop. The big reveals weren�t a surprise, but the moments of discovering the world and found family made this an overall heartwarming adventure.
Based on the general synopsis of Treasure Island, I�d say this book is as much a retelling as any other story featuring a treasure map and a race to find hidden treasure. Most details are completely their own, from the setting to Xiang�s backstory to her bonds with the pirate crew.
