Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship is a novel written by the German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The book tells the story of Wilhelm Meister, a young man who is searching for his place in the world. He leaves his family's home to become an actor, but soon finds himself disillusioned with the profession. He then becomes involved with a group of traveling performers, but again finds himself unsatisfied with this lifestyle. Throughout the novel, Wilhelm meets a variety of characters who help shape his understanding of himself and the world around him. He falls in love with a beautiful actress named Mariane, but their relationship is complicated by her past and the expectations of society. As Wilhelm continues on his journey, he becomes interested in the world of business and eventually becomes a successful merchant. Along the way, he also learns about the importance of friendship, love, and personal growth. The novel is considered a Bildungsroman, or a coming-of-age story, and is seen as a classic of German literature. It explores themes such as the search for identity, the role of art in society, and the meaning of life.1917. Goethe is widely recognized as the greatest writer of the German tradition. The Romantic period in Germany is known as the age of Goethe, and Goethe embodies the concerns of the generation defined by the legacies of Rousseau, Kant, and the French Revolution. His eminence is derived not only from his literary achievements as a lyric poet, novelist, and dramatist but also from his often significant contributions as a scientist (geologist, botanist, anatomist, physicist, historian of science) and as a critic and theorist of literature and of art. His most noted works are The Sorrows of Young Werther, Wilhelm Meister and Faust. The novel Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre became the prototype of the German Bildungsroman, or novel of character development. Buying this book was an excellent transaction. The book is in great shape and was delivered well packaged. The seller went above and beyond the call of duty to get the book to me. Our substitute postman who was working while our regular postman was on vacation sent the book back even though it was properly and clearly addressed. The seller emailed me that he was mailing it again and this time it ran the gauntlet of ineptitude and we received it. I really appreciate their caring and persistence. This is not an easy book to find. Thank you a thousand times for +making the extra effort to get the book to me.
