Poetics is a book written by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, which is considered one of the most important works in literary theory and criticism. The book is divided into 26 chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of poetry and drama. In the first chapter, Aristotle defines poetry as an imitation of reality, and distinguishes between different types of poetry, such as epic, tragedy, and comedy. He then goes on to examine the structure and elements of tragedy, including plot, character, and language, and provides examples from Greek drama to illustrate his points. Throughout the book, Aristotle emphasizes the importance of unity and coherence in poetry, and argues that a good tragedy should inspire pity and fear in the audience, while also offering a sense of catharsis or emotional release. He also discusses the role of the poet and the audience in creating and interpreting works of art, and explores the relationship between poetry and philosophy. Overall, Poetics is a seminal work that has had a profound influence on Western literature and aesthetics, and continues to be studied and debated by scholars and artists today. How to say the serious things, and how they make us feel. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Humanities will change only when the humans change too. Until then, some truths remain unchallanged. Such is the case of Aristotle's Poetics. It says it all concerning what critic and public should know about the essentials of esthetics, in particular, but not exclusively tied to, literary arts. Art theorry since Aristotle has been little but expanding on the insights offered by The Philosopher. A nice, handy edition, too.

Aristotle Poetics
This was a book I was assigned to read in my Greek Drama class. It is written by Aristotle and describes how Greek plays were performed. It is very dry reading. This is definitely not a book you would read unless it was assigned reading in a class.
