This small collection of short stories is saved from being cloying and saccharin by the exceptional quality of the prose Woollcott expends to describe a period of Americana that may only survive in aging tomes and fading memories. This volume requires the reader to adore dogs before opening. Given that caveat, you will not be disappointed.
