Historical Mother Goose: A Jingle Book of Facts Told in Nonsense Rhymes is a children's book written by Ella Wheeler Wilcox. The book is a collection of nursery rhymes that tell the stories of historical figures and events in a fun and entertaining way. Each rhyme is accompanied by colorful illustrations that bring the characters and stories to life. From the story of Christopher Columbus to the tale of Joan of Arc, this book takes young readers on a journey through history, introducing them to some of the most famous figures and events in a way that is both educational and enjoyable. The rhymes are easy to read and memorize, making this book a great tool for parents and teachers looking to introduce children to history in a fun and engaging way. Overall, Historical Mother Goose is a delightful and informative book that is sure to capture the imaginations of young readers. This very uncommon and rare book includes catchy airs with lyrics about the Boston Tea Party, the Declaration of Independence, Christopher Columbus, the Civil War, and other people and events related to American history. It is the experience of every child, that nonsense rhymes and Mother Goose jingles remain in the memory, whereas historical dates fly away as soon as the book is closed. The idea suggested itself, of wedding Father History with Mother Goose, and thus keeping Nonsense and Facts in one family. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Every President's Day I remember this: "....Feb. 22, 1732, Little Georgie Washington first said "boo hoo, hoo hoo", [chorus of rock baby].......In Westmoreland County in the Old Virginia State, there was born this hero who became so good and great [chorus]...." The juxtaposition of facts such as dates with silly phrases like 'boo hoo hoo hoo" or "rock, baby" makes U.S. history fun. Haven't seen this book for over 20 years, but still remember the musical birth and death dates of Washington and Lincoln, how silly it was of Miles Standish to send another man to woo Priscilla, the sea battle which sent "Serapis under" etc.... Very catchy tunes to use with young children, which bring history alive. Easy for a classroom teacher or parent to play on the piano, written by an American composer, and illustrated by another American famous in children's books. The original Schirmer publication containing the piano score has linen hinges and stays open on a piano desk. If the original copies are battered a bit, it's because of years of use on a piano desk or thumbing by sticky fingers.
