A bright, solid book, DJ in Mylar. Small foldout map bound in after list of illustrations (Map of New Caledonia, undated), a larger map in fine condition in pocket attached to back board. This is based on a 1907 map (by Morice) of Northern British Columbia. Appendices and index at back.; B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9"-10" tall; 368 pages; Morice, who lived 1859-1938, was a missionary sent to British Columbia in 1880. He served in posts such as Williams Lake, Fort Saint James. In his travels, he made notes about the countryside and the people, drew up a map and eventually published this book in Toronto in 1904 by William Briggs and in 1906 an expanded British edition of which this is a facsimile. After leaving missionary work he went on to write a number of books on western Canadian & mission history.

Represents an enlargement of a paper the author had prepared on Aboriginal History, embodying facts which, on account of the light they threw on the manners and customs of the natives in pre-European times, he thought it well to preserve for posterity.
