Great Book !
The Playford Ball: 103 Early Country Dances, 1651-1820: As Interpreted by Cecil Sharp and His Followers by Kate Van Winkle Keller and Genevieve Shimer is a great book because of the way it presents these dances in both their original format and in more current usage, as well as the many observations about each dance's place in history along with references inferred by dance and music titles. The general discussion of the dances then and now is a great service for those who want to understand how they have survived despite the huge changes in the centuries since they were first danced. Here one can see specific dances in a context that gives them lives of their own, so that they are not relics dusted off for occaisional perusal.
