Seller's Description:
Very Good. This is a very good or better hardcover copy without dust jacket as issued with almost no wear. Completely clean. This monograph was prepared to accompany the exhibition at the Chicago Historical Society in 1977. Sharon Darling's work at the Society sparked or at least co-incided with a revival of interest in the decorative arts work in Chicago around the turn of the twentieth century. She has also produced monographs on the ceramics of the period, notably Teco Pottery. This exhibition took an expansive view of the Chicago School, with the first works in the show being silverware from a number of firms like Sherwood & Whatley, Edwards & Company, and Speer & Cosper, active in the early nineteenth century. The exhibition had many highlights: Robert Jarvie's exquisite silver punch bowl and silver water pitcher of 1911; the many Kalo Shop Arts & Crafts designs, bronze andirons by Prairie School architect George G. Elmslie (executed by Jarvie), Falick Novick's 20th century copperwork, etc. Illustrated throughout in black & white with 155 works catalogued and photographed, many with small photos of the maker marks. Bibliography. Superb and essential reference work for Chicago metal smiths. 9" square, 141 pages. This book will be securely wrapped and shipped with tracking.
