I'm utterly entranced with this book. I worried that this book would be too detailed/technical since I don't know the Hawaiian language. Knowing the language would make the book even more wonderful, but even without, this book provides insight into the human condition and the Hawaiian view of it: everything from serious, silly, laudatory, rude, and didactic comments.

A voice for the Native Hawaiian culture
As I read Mary Kawena Puku`i, I can hear the words of my kupuna speaking to me. There is a strong connection that I feel to my Hawaiian culture as the Hawaiian words are translated into English . The book has helped me to develop a Hawaiian curriculum for young children. My book arrived early and was a great choice to get in touch with my roots.
