Indeed Hal Cannon went far and wide to find some of the verse found in this book. And it is some of the best there is, particularly the older ones written in the 19th century or early part of the 20th. S. Omar Barker is probably the best of the best, assuredly the most widely known name from the 1900's. One thing I like and appreciate are the notes on the poems providing meanings to some of the words used in the poems that are unusual, especially if you are not well versed in cowboy language, i.e. seago, a loose hemp rope. A fine group of poems.
