This is not the typical detective story where you don't know the outcome to the last five pages. In this book you know who everyone is and what everyone is doing. The story is about an exmarine, George Moran, who travels to Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic to relive his time there in 1965 when he was with the third battalion, Sixth Maries. He is looking for a girl who almost killed him during the 30 day war--and then saved his life. Unknown to Moran, a married woman, Mary de Boya, has followed Geoge down to Santo Domingo on the pretext that she and several girlfriends want to see the polo games that are going on. Mary's husband is the famous ex General under the DR dictator who killed thousands of civilians and then fled to Miami before he can be killed by the peasant guerillas. Mary and George have the hots for one another, but have never been together. There is a lot of intrigue and beer drinking going on, and before the end of the book at least four people are killed. The story moves fast and is fun.
