Mapes has a very readable style, and this book rapidly becomes too engaging to put down. He has done a lot of research and writes very clearly. Even for those not particularly interested in advocacy, the book is worth reading as a modern history of the cycling scene. I found masses of really informative and relevant stuff in this book and it still was very worthwhle reading even though I do not live in the USA - a lot of the trends, observations and lessons described are applicable anywhere.

bicycles are good
I like this book because it backs up the idea of bicycling as a positive change for society. I learned why it costs much less money for bicycling infrastructure than automobile infrastructure, and why the politics involved can be challenging in some places and easier in other places. Bicycling improves physical and mental health, social health, personal finances, and environmental health.
