Fine in Very Good jacket. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" (USA) 1st of this edition ( the book was originally published by Harper and Brothers in 1958 or 1959. No markings, Fine in unclipped Very Good dust jacket with a piece of clear tape at the head of shte spine and tiny chip to front falp fold corner tip. Black cloth with gold spine titles, x, 369pp, index, B&W photos. Rothstein (1882-1928), [1] nicknamed "The Brain", was an American racketeer, crime boss, businessman, and gambler who became a kingpin of the Jewish Mob in New York City. Rothstein was widely reputed to have organized corruption in professional athletics, including conspiring to fix the 1919 World Series. He was also a mentor of future crime bosses Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Frank Costello, Bugsy Siegel, and numerous others. Rothstein "transformed organized crime from a thuggish activity by hoodlums into a big business run like a corporation. Rothstein refused to pay a large debt resulting from a fixed poker game and was murdered in 1928. (1.9 JM 0704.
