This Computer Illustrated Text is a software/text package providing a thorough introduction to two widely used statistical techniques. Both regression and analysis of variance are topics where the student can benefit from the use of computer graphics to illustrate important points in the text. The software also allows more advanced topics to be included by obviating the need for the reader to perform tedious calculations. The text proceeds by discussing each technique, with recourse to a large number of worked examples, emphasising how each method works in practice. Detailed mathematics is avoided in the main body of the text, though key results are derived in an appendix. The software extends the textual material, providing illustrations of the concepts involved, and allowing the reader to explore each topic in more detail. Introduction to Regression and Analysis of Variance begins with a description of simple linear regression and its applications, and goes on to consider correlation. One-way and two-way analysis of variance are discussed, including topics such as multiple comparison tests, contrasts, and factorial and non-orthogonal experiments. The analysis of covariance is also presented, the computer being invaluable in both performing the necessary calculations and showing the graphical interpretation of results. Multiple regression, including model selection, is discussed in the final two chapters. Introduction to Regression and Analysis of Variance will be a valuable text for students of statistics in all fields. The text is not specific to any particular microcomputer. Software is available for the BBC series of machines and the IBM PC and compatible machines. The software is not available from your local bookshop but is easily obtainable using the order form on page i. other_titles
