Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.' LOLITA is the story of Humbert Humbert, poet and pervert, and his obsession with twelve-year-old Dolores Haze. Determined to possess his 'Lolita' both carnally and artistically, Humbert embarks on a disastrous courtship that can only end in tragedy. Initially, Nabokov was unable to find an American publisher willing to take the book on. It was finally published in Paris in 1954 but its notoriety spread quickly. Graham Green, in an interview in THE TIMES later that year, called it 'one of the best books of 1954'. When G.P. Putnam's Sons published in the US in 1958, it was a bestseller; the first book since Gone with the Wind to sell 100,000 copies in the first three weeks of publication.

This was a great book. I gave it 4 stars because is was somewhere between good and excellent. It was a little hard to follow at times because some of the words were a little over my head, Keep a dictionary handy.

Beautiful copy
Lolita should be in hardcover, and the one I purchased here was in excellent shape.

This book is probably one of the best I have ever read. Unlike most books, the so called bad guy gives you his point of view on his love for nymphs like Dolores Haze. It's an excellent read if you like psychological books and are willing to steep through the mind of a pedophile.

Classic
Deep insights into the mind of a pedophile.
No wonder we never could find it when we were young.

love at first sight
You will fall in love with this book after the first chapter. Really after the first sentence, if you're like me. Wonderful read, fantastical subject, poetic, smooth. My favorite book of all time.
