I can recommend this book to everyone who really wants to understand Lévi-Strauss. The book is not designed for beginners really, rather for those who know some of the basics already but have been puzzled by them. Hénaff is a philosopher and he is able to bring out the intellectual coherence behind Lévi-Strauss' thought, showing as meaningful ideas which to most readers might seem surprising or even absurd. Hénaff's presentation is particularly welcome as a correction of many of the simplifications and misinterpretations of Lévi-Strauss that can be found in standard textbooks writen by Anglo-Saxons. His aim is not to criticise Lévi-Strauss but to make sense of him. If this is the introduction to his work that Lévi-Strauss likes best, I can understand why.
