Both of these institutions have expanded rapidly since their establishment in the 1960s, and are gaining increasing recognition almost everywhere except in Eastern Europe. This book is a personal and anecdotal history of the IB and the UWC, by Alec Peterson, who played a pioneering role in forming them. Under the inspiration of visionary educator Kurt Hahn, a dedicated group of individuals responded to the challenge of the interdependent international post-war world by laying the foundations for international education. As His Royal Highness th Prince of Wales points out, governments played little or no part in conceiving the IB or the UWC, through recently their interest and contributions have grown.
