One of the best on Miro
I am a bit of a Miro nut - I've puchased 13 different books on him. The only better book I've found is JOAN MIRO' 1917-1934: I'm Going to Smash their Guitar, ISBN-10: 1903470226. Unfortunately that one is new, so you'd end up paying $30 even for a used copy. This book isn't far behind at all - definitely the best bang for the buck. I'd still strongly suggest the reviewed book even for those who own "Smash their Guitar", however.
This book features over 200 full color illustrations, an excellent initial commentary text, a thorough chronology (with references to the plate numbers of works he did, making the chronology that much better) and an exhibition history.
If you're a Miro fan you might think about:
1. Taschen's book on Miro (anything but thorough, but large vivid color pictures of his work),
2. Joan Miro: Painting and Anti-Painting 1927-1937 (concentrating on his work between - you guessed it! - 1927 and 1937)
3. Miro In Montreal - another large collection, and available dirt cheap used.
4. Miro in America - shorter, but contains some works not seen in the other books.
and most importantly:
5. JOAN MIRO' 1917-1934: I'm Going to Smash their Guitar, ISBN-10: 1903470226, if you can swing the $30-35 for it.
