How could a famous author die just from writing a biography? What would make an art expert buy a totally worthless painting? Why would the police release a man who confessed to murdering his wife? Fire up your brain, and get to the bottom of these ingenious and confounding puzzles! While you can do these alone, you might invite your friends and make it a game. One person acts as a quiz master, looking at the clues and solutions in advance and answering questions. Start with the easier warm-up puzzles, then move on to workout, strenuous, and super-strenuous ones. Try out this simple mystery for size: A man called his wife from the office to say he'd be home at eight o'clock. He got in at 8:02--and his wife was furious! The clues section reveals that they didn't have any particular appointment, and that it was his arrival time that angered her. Can you figure out why? Here's a harder example: Why would a perfectly healthy young girl put a full cast on an uninjured arm? She didn't want sympathy, and wasn't concealing anything in the cast. And these are super-strenuous: How could falling in love cause a woman to lose all her hair? For what reason would a man immediately fill a gorgeous new sports car--a gift from his wife--with wet cement? (He completely ruined it!) Other puzzles use visual clues, and after each grouping there's a fun-filled, timed set of ten quick questions designed to trick you! 96 pages, 25 b/w illus., 5 3/8 x 8 1/4.
