This book interested me because it is a fictionalized account of the story of Ruth from the Bible. The book starts in Moab, with Ruth and her husband and family. After her husband dies, Ruth makes the journey to his homeland to be with her mother-in-law. She found a new home and family in Bethlehem, and she became part of the family line of Jesus Christ. Lois Henderson did a lot research on the culture of that time period, which helped me to understand some things better. For example, when Ruth went to the threshing floor, in obedience to her mother-in-law, if she had been seen, her reputation would have been ruined, because usually the only reason a woman would have gone to the threshing floor, would have been impure motives. To me, that made her act of obedience even more special, because she knew what the consequences of her actions could be. One of the good things about the book is it is accurate to the Biblical account. The author only added imaginary details, and cultural background, to make an interesting novel.
