"The Bell Ringers" is in fact the North American edition of Henry Porter's book "The Dying Light". So one or the other gets sold to the unwary as a different book by Henry Porter, when the only difference between the two books is the differnce between English, and the North American version of the same.
One has to wonder why The British are quite content to read books by American authors in American English while North ¨Americans seem unable to deal with the English version of the language they use.
The two books are one book and are excellent. But remember to chose the version which best suits your ideas of how The English speak English. For receptive and educated people from either side of the atlantic, that means, buy "The Dying Light" and reject "The Bell ringers". That way you will understand the reality of the book, which is written by an English writer, better. The question "Would you reccommend this book to a friend" is clearly unanswerable since the reply obviously depends on the open mindedness and knowledge of international matters of the friend as well, perhaps, as where they live. The question posed did not allow for the possibility that some people don't live in the USA, or Britain, or maybe even live somewhere else. Perhaps Alibris needs internationalising too.
