First let me say that I have never been much of a book reader (other than the children books I read my children). I bought this book over two years ago. The title really caught my eye. I was then pregnant with my third child who is now two. I am a mother of three, Ashtynn (11), Hunter (5), and Brayden (2). Two weeks ago I decided to pick the book up and read it and as soon as I began to read I could not stop. Every night I look forward to reading and learning so much about parenting. My husband was raised in a very hard "authoritarian" home and I feel I was raised in a much more loving home. I never felt that I was not loved and he always felt he couldn't be loved and so this has carried over into our own parenting techniques. He has been very firm and believed his decisions were the only option for our children and I have let this go on, until recently. Let me say, over our twelve years of marriage my husband has changed for the better in so many ways (from being just a provider to being a "Daddy") and I give all thanks to the Lord. I have never doubted his love for our children, he just has a hard time letting them know it.
I have prayed for many years and I feel that this book was a little gift from God. Doing most everything that had to do with the kids myself, I was getting to a point that I was losing my cool and that isn't like me at all. I have been looking for my "patience" for about a year now and with the help from Dr. Leman's book, I found it!! I have used several of his responses to situations with the kids and every time received a positive reaction. Since, my husband has seen this himself, he really is into working together to disipline our children in a "Loving Discipline" way and letting reality be the guide. Teaching them that we are here to help and guide them in their lives to be able to make their own good decisions and to be responsible. Above all of the leasons this book teaches is to "LOVE"! Love your children as the Lord himself loves you, in a understanding, accepting, non-judging, and forgiving way but with a stong dose of reality. This book helps parents handle the everyday hassles we face with our children in a way that teaches both kids and parents a lesson. You may not realize it, but there are many times we (the parents) wrongfully discipline our children, not meaning to, and in turn we only hurt ourselves. This book helps you to learn to keep your cool in all situations and not to force your will on your children making them resentful towards you. I finally realized that I don't have to sit and listen to screaming, fussing, back- talking, fighting children all the time. Using several of Dr. Leman's suggestions, I found that all my children were wanting was for us to truely love and disipline them in the right way. Our home, in a very short time, has changed tremendously for the better. Thank you Dr. Leman for using God's messages from the Bible to help us parents truely understand what being a parent really means.

intentionally deceptive
Nowhere in the marketing materials for this book - cover, title, jacket, back-of-book blurb, author bio - does the publisher/author choose to divulge that the book is written by a hardcore BIBLE THUMPER. The entire book is based on biblical principles/teachings and mentions god/bible quotes on nearly every page. This seems dishonest and intentionally deceptive, as the book appears to be any other guide, and when purchased turns about to be a long religious tract on childrearing.
