She loved him and he her - in another time and place. That plan thwarted by his lust and her family, they do not see each other for 15 years. Set on a plan to wed the man, Fiona abducts him. She is trying to end a lifelong fued between the families that has escalated recently with her younger brother's death. It is placed on his families head. The only way to stop the fued is to combine the families - she thinks. She lies to get the deed done and he goes along because he believes it is all a dream before he dies. Or, that he has died and gone to Heaven to see her a last time. When he awakens and finds it is truth - he is livid. BUT, sees the way of the plan as the only possible plan once he knows the whole story. Resigned to do the deed, he refuses to give up his normal way of life. Which does not bode well for their union and the possiblity of the child they must conceive. She has always loved him and feels betrayed. He still loves her but is hurt by what happend 15 years before. True, he did have the mistress, but who knows? Set upon their course, him refusing to change - but willing to stay wed - he errs. She is fit to be tied and her rain cloud follows him everywhere. The plot thickens when his past mistress is dumped and refuses to accept defeat. Couple her with a man who loves Fiona and wants his land back, the schemes abound. Until Jack finds he really does want only his wife and she him. Then the murder attempt starts another near feud. This is a good book. I will read the rest. This is the third of the MacLean stories I have read. I am not sure how many there are - but I recommend them all. Read in order or not, it is fine either way.
