"The Fighting Agents" is based on an historical event, in which Col. Fergin was stranded during WWII on a south pacific island without reinforcements. Virtually singlehandedly, he cobbled together a defense force, which comes to the attention of the US government. The story is facinating in that it displays General Mcarthur's arrogance and unwillingness to admit that any fact of the war could paossibly escape his laser-like vision. Actually hubris being his main fault, in this case, his mistake was to ignore reports from the field that he chose not to believe. Griffin's total realism and military knowlege of the most detailed situation makes this book is convincing, compelling and a great read!
