Overshadowed in a number of ways by the movie it inspired, staring John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, Scott Phillips novel of suspense and Christmas is short, winning and forceful.
A variation on the get-outta-town motif, we follow a semi tough, semi corrupt mid level semi crook on Christmas Eve as he makes the rounds, killing time while waiting for his meet up with his partner. The plan is to split the loot and split town. Things don't go quite as planned. Full of engaging characters, twisty plotting and humor at once dark and sometimes slap-stick, this is well written entertainment.
