This is a well written historical fiction about one of my favorite time periods, the settling of the West. The author keeps you involved with the characters to the very end of the story.

I am glad to know more of Miss Essie.
I am glad the story line did not end in "Courting Trouble." I came away with a greater understanding of the early oil rush in Texas as well as human nature. Miss Essie is one of the charactors that becomes alive in the story. Great!

Where's the Next One?
I nearly hyperventilated when I first saw this in the bookstore. I've been waiting for her latest book, and was surprised that it was already out. I grabbed it, not even bothering to read the back cover to see what it was about, because I knew I'd love it. I was not disappointed. This is the sequel to Courting Trouble, which as not a predictable book, at all. This takes place a few years later, in 1899 Texas, and addresses the issue of lynching, among other things. There is a romance, of course , and a murder mystery. You learn about the oil industry of the time, and the change from horses to bicycles, to automobiles. I'm glad this character, Essie, found such an exceptional man. I couldn't put it down. Now that it's done, I'm looking around for her next one. Well, where is it?
