All alone on the Kansas prairie, Summer Steadman has few options. With her husband and children lost to illness, she has no desire to continue on farther west to where she and her husband planned to build their future. Instead, she seeks employment in a small Mennonite community in order to be near the graves of her family. Widower Peter Ollenburger, the local gristmill owner, needs someone to teach his young son. When he hears of a "learned woman" in town, he believes she is the answer to his prayers. He soon discovers, however, that helping this outsider may have troublesome consequences. There is little this father will not do for his son, but as the boy begins to look at Summer as more than a teacher, Peter must make a choice. Does he marry this woman to give his son a new mother, or does he marry only for love? Will Summer's broken heart ever be able to love again?

Truly the Best Book I Have Ever Read!
Very seldom does a book impress me so much that I have to search with diligence to find out what else an author has written, but WOW!...I just finished reading Kim Vogel Sawyer's book "Waiting for Summer's Return" and I just cannot wait to read more of what she has written! I don't get a lot of time each day to read, but I sought every spare minute I could get to read this book. It was definitely one of the most difficult books to put down that I've ever read before! Every aspect of this story about Summer Steadman, a young woman who has met with family tragedy is extremely endearing and heartrending. The author truly has the gift of captivating and putting the reader inside the lives of Summer Steadman and Peter Ollenberger, the gentle soft-spoken man who touches your heart. It would be wonderful if there were someone as genuine as Peter Ollenberger for all of us women! Ha! I do not want to disclose much of the story, because each reader needs to have the delight in living Summer's experience afresh. I just could not resist the opportunity to share how much the story, characters and the spiritual meaning touched me. I'm thankful for Kim Vogel Sawyer's ministry and writing such a beautiful story. I cannot wait to read more books that she has written. Read "Waiting for Summer's Return" and enjoy every moment (except for the sleep you'll lose! Ha!)
