Valerius isn't a popular Dark-Hunter - he's a Roman, which means that the largely Greek Hunters have a major grudge against him and his civilization for superceding them. To make things worse, he's very conscious of his aristocratic background and breeding. So it serves him right when he runs into Tabitha Devereaux. She's sassy, sexy, and completely unwilling to take him seriously. (Not to mention Tabitha is also the sister-in-law of Kyrian, a former Dark-Hunter and Val's mortal enemy.) What Tabitha does take seriously is hunting and killing vampires-and soon she and Val have to grapple with the deadliest of all Daimons - one who's managed to come back from the dead, and one who holds a serious grudge against both of them. To win against evil, Val will have to loosen up, learn to trust, and put everything on the line to protect a man he hates and a woman who drives him nuts.

Kenyon has not written a book I have not enjoyed. This particular adventure is different in many ways from the traditional Dark Hunter saga. Valerius was nobility early in life and had the opportunity to change his circumstances to a higher degree than the other Dark Hunters. It makes his story seem at times hard to find empathy. Then, we find out the twist. I realized what an awesome writer Sherri was when I was resentful of Valerius without even knowing all the facts. She has the ability to make you love the hero's,hate the bad guys and feel empathy to most of the others. All her books are good - the last 20 pages of this one were a nonstop tearfest for me.

AMAZING BOOK
Sherrilynn kenyon is an AMAZING author! i didn't read the books in order[which wasn't all that smart of me], but there was no need to. you don't have to read the previoud books in the series to understand this book. This book is about a chick who covers up her pain and moves through life with sarcasm and jokes. She may be crazy and somewhat psychotic, but she also has a soft side. She cares for her friends and family and would STAB you if you hurt them. The man or "hero" in the story is the man all his "co-workers" hate because of what his family did to one of them. These two people come together despite all the crazy life-sucking daimons and the intereference from the chick's family[who HATES this man's guts and race] i reaaaaaaally reccommend this book, it is totally amazing!!!

Loved it
This is a book to fulfill every womans dream of the tormented loyal hero. This book is one of my particular favorites of the set and I defy any woman to not fall in love with the deep abiding love yet tortured soul of Valerius. If you've met Tabitha in any of the other books you can't help but want to be the quirky fun-loving, naughty girl....even with her voodoo loving family. This entire series is NOT recommended for people who don't enjoy science-fiction, romance, mythology, creatures of the night, or time travel/immortality.

Hot
This book was the first of Kenyon's books that I read and now I can barely wait from book to book. This book gets you from page one and makes you want more when it is over. Sherrilyn Kenyon again throws together comedy, heat, and vampires and comes out with a winner. Tabitha is by far on my top 5 list of Heroines she's hot and can fight she doesn't stand back and wait for the man to rescue her. Valerius, oh my he is all that you could want to love, kiss and kill in a man. The whole time you know he's frustrating Tabitha you want nothing less for them to allow the chemistry to explode. I tell everyone I know about not only this book, but all of the Dark-Hunter books, Sherrilyn Kenyon is by far the best writer in the Genre.
