For breathless action, gripping suspense, and intense romance, bestselling author Linda Howard never misses a beat-and her thrilling new novel will have your heart racing. In the charming rural town of Trail Stop, Idaho, accessible to the outside world by only a single road, young widow Cate Nightingale lives peacefully with her four-year-old twin boys, running a bed-and-breakfast. Though the overnight guests are few and far between-occasional hunters and lake fishermen-Cate always manages to make ends meet with the help of the local jack-of-all-trades, Calvin Harris, who can handle everything from carpentry to plumbing. But Calvin is not what he seems, and Cate's luck is about to run out. One morning, the B&B's only guest inexplicably vanishes, leaving behind his personal effects. A few days later Cate is shocked when armed men storm the house, demanding the mystery man's belongings. Fearing for her children's lives, Cate agrees to cooperate-until Calvin saves the day, forcing the intruders to scatter into the surrounding woods. The nightmare, however, is just beginning. Cate, Calvin, and their entire community find themselves cut off and alone with no means to call for help as the threat gathers intensity and first blood is drawn. With their fellow residents trapped and the entire town held hostage, Cate and Calvin have no choice but to take the fight to their enemies under the cover of night. While reticent Cal becomes a fearless protector, Cate makes the most daring move of her life . . . into the very heart of danger.

This book would be worth reading simply for the dialogue between Cate, Calvin, and the 4yr old twins... and that's even before Cate notices Cal is a real "MAN". After that, things really get intense.
I don't know if Linda Howard has family in the Marines but I felt this story was a tribute to them. As a former Recon Marine, Cal must use much of his considerable skill to organize and protect their small community from a group of killers. As Cate has fallen for Calvin, there is no way he's going to allow the bad guys to take her away from him now. The lengths he goes to in order to keep her safe will keep you from putting this book down until you've finished it.
We are blessed to have real "Calvins" among us. I'm married to one and he's just as faithful and handy with a saw! Thank you Linda for writing this one so true to the heart of the soldiers and the women they love.

Handy Dandy Man
A woman making a go of it after a terrible loss. Not thinking of love, not thinking about anything but making a living and raising her kiddos. A man in love with her but hiding it while she takes her time, heals and comes to her own mind about when to love again. A man worth having for the patience he has shown. However, that is not what this story is about. That is just a pleasant by product of the storyline. The two (although one is swift and without much body) love stories are really not what this story is about. This is a story of a community faced with peril that comes together as a unit. That the hero and heroine are the lone people able to handle some of the challenges tosses them into working together. As they unfold their love story slowly - it is really about the town, the community and home and what some will do to protect all that they hold dear. This is a superb read - told the way that Howard can only do. A must read for those who truly believe in family and community as a strong bond. Read for the main story, enjoy for the love story by-product.....

The Good Guy Wins!
At first I was bored I thought this was a disappointmental buy of a book, but then by the second chapter I was hooked. I find myself still thinking about it and wanting to read it againl. In this Linda Howard novel you find yourself face to face in the daily struggles of Cate Nightingale, a widow, a Bed and Breakfest owner, and mother of 4 year old twin boys. But then suspense falls into play when a guest of the Bed and Breakfast goes missing and she is left with his belongings and some not so nice friends come looking for him. Then she is awaken by the passion and shyness of the town handyman who blind to her has been in love with her for three years and she comes to terms she can love someone other than her late husband. But all to shockingly the whole town is put in danger as her guest's mad men are in action to scare into giving up something she does not have and the town is brutally attacked, but all to be saved by her beau and lover in the end.

Very Good Story
I love Linda Howard stories and this one is no exception. The storyline is fresh and the characters believeable. It also has a nice sideline of having everyong in the town pitch in for the good of the whole. Overall, a very good read.
