I have read quite a few of Kathleen E Woodiwiss' books. I have enjoyed all of them. This one is one of the best of the bunch. Sort of a "Gone With the Wind" but even better.

Civil War romance
I enjoyed Ashes in the Wind. The characters are very vivid and there's alot of action. Miss Woodiwiss seems to know her subject well. This book was recommended to me by a friend who remembered it from years ago. I read it first and passed it along to her so she can enjoy it while she is off with surgery. I also liked the suporting characters, especially Saul, Alaina's servant man from before the war who always seems to be where he is needed the most. I learned some things I didn't know before about the Civil War down in the New Orleans area and up along the lower Mississippi.

The Best
This is one of the four books by Kathleen Woodiwiss that I could easily read over and over again. I have recently purchased it in hard back so that i can do just that. Any one who enjoys reading historical romances will thoroughly enjoy this book. If you really , really enjoy them then you will be able to live each page as you read it because the book is such a fantastic read and I doubt you will be able to put it down once you start. My only disappointment is that there can never be any more. God bless you, Kathleen for allowing us to share what was in your heart and mind, you will be sorely missed.

AWESOME! My very first book by Kathleen Woodiwiss and I've been hooked ever since. The many guises of "Al" is ingenious and the persistance of Captain Colton after he finds out who "Al" really is is heroic. I laughed, cried, got angry and sometimes became afraid for all the misfortunes that seemed to befall "Al". The author's writing style is pure pleasure and the book so captivates you that you don't want to put it down. I stayed up 'til 4 in the morning a couple of nights knowing that I had to get up in three hours. If you are a lover of historical romances or not this is a must read!

AWESOME STORY!!!!!
This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE book!!!! I've read it six times. The historical facts that Ms Woodiwiss weaves into this wonderful book is done quite well. It will make you cry, laugh, sometimes at the same time. This is a must read.
