I enjoyed this book very much--it was easy and fun to read. While no housekeeper is perfect enough to do everything she recommends, it is a helpful book that will tell you just about anything, and I do mean anything about keeping a home!

Big,Big,Big
Who is this tome really for? Pity the new bride who has to heft this heavy, overly written, superfluous book. It's full of advice and tips that could be said in shorter sentences. Most of the wordiness could not only be told in very much fewer words but the advice is of the very nature that appears Everywhere. Or is just plain common sense. The new bride who has, probably, to work outside needs quick, concise helps. She, I'm guessing, is not going to want to plow through the tedium of this work. The simple telling of how threadbare towels will wipe up a spill, OH! and paper towels are good too could've been said in so many fewer words than the 35 or so sentences, is one example. So if it is not directed at the young bride who is too swamped in obligations is it maybe aimed at retired women/men who have the time? A lot of those Know All This. The book is Highly impractical and massively weighty, physically.

A Great Book for Reference and for Gifts
Cheryl Mendelson writes clearly and well, and her book is a great reference for anyone either beginning to keep house, trying to establish a routine, or looking to pick up tips and hints. She has a comprehensive guide to the home and what it takes to care for it, and writes well enough to convince her readers that it is worthwhile. I have used this book for several years now, and it is only rarely that I did not find the information I was looking for. I often give it as a wedding gift, too.

Better than Martha!
I've read Martha Stewart's Homekeeping and this book is light years ahead; easier to use, more realistic, a must read for anyone who doesn't have an army of servants doing everything for them...maybe they should read it, too so they can make sure their servants are doing it right! I want one for all my kids, boys and girls!

Lawson continued
This seems to be a continuation of another of Lawson's books: Marcos and the Phillipines. Lawson is an excellent writer on various historical settings involving the US in the World. His books are great resources for homeschoolers and history buffs.
