If irresponsible, selfish people drive you crazy, don't read this book. But if you want to learn about the majesty of the Pacific Ocean or delve into the inner recesses of a man's mind, then do read this book. The narrator irritated me no end because he was such a shallow , thoughtless person, but I was still fascinated by him. I kept reading to try to figure out what motivated him. I wanted to know if his epic journey would change him. Who could go through what he did and not be changed, I wondered. You'll have to read the book yourself to see if he does.
