Sarah Dessen At Her Best
The Truth About Forever is a meaningful story of love, loss, regret, and most importantly, of finding happiness because of, or even in spite of these elements. Macy is dealing with the recent death of her father, and the horrible breakup with her boyfriend (by email!) while he is away for the summer. The boy she clung to in the face of her loss, has now abandoned her as well, and over the course of the novel, she has to learn to stand on her own. She starts to work for a family-run catering company, run by a flamboyant, hilarious, and hysterical mother, and meets a whole new slew of peers - who are quick to become friends who the novel focuses on. Through a series of events, Macy becomes not only likeable, but inspiring - to teenagers and adults alike! While I began reading Sarah Dessen in my teens, and subsequently own every book she has written, I still read her novels from a more adult position, and am still able to appreciate them for what they truly are - looks into the lives of teenagers, yes, but the themes and issues present are also significant on an adult level.
