If readers read Nella Larsen's "Passing" and enjoyed it, they will definitely have a similar opinion about Larsen's "Quicksand". To summarize, it is a woman's pilgrimage of self-discovery within herself and within her race, and to find where "home" truly is. You can easily connect to the main character and empathize with her as well. At certain moments, you want to ask, "What is it that you want? Where is home?" But Helga Crane is already asking herself this question. It is a humanistic story and written with excellence. It does not fall underneath the stereotypical "tragic mulatto" tales, because this book exceeds this concept because of its quality.
