I first read this book a couple of years after it originally came out. It's a fabulous fun read, imaginative even compared to things written today, with original ideas and great, likable characters. My favorite has always been "Goth," the young "true witch of Karres," the little girl who stares at you like a weasel about to bite if you threaten her, and "The Captain," Captain Pausert, who apparently has no first name. I loved this book back then, and for October, 2009, I recommended it to my book club, and we all loved it now. It's entertaining, enjoyable to read, a "rollicking fun ride" and one of my all-time favorite books -- and I'm a huge reader.

Wonderful story, lovely characters, excellent development and is laudably succeeded by "The Wizard of Karres". If anything can go wrong, it does and remember there are honest to Pantham kleptomaniac witches on board so neither the laws of man nor physics necessarily apply.
