Joan Aiken writes well, tells a good story and although she takes some of Jane Austen's characters into her stories, the stories stand on their own merits. She also usually has an interesting twist in the story which makes it her own and her characters are well rounded and believable. I recommend her books as I have enjoyed all that I have read.

Love Aiken and usually like her witty Austen pastiches, but I thought this rather flat.
