Laurence Housman did original illustrations for Christina Rosetti's Goblin Market which were for the story. The current illustrations, while beautiful, are Not FOR the story. They are random paintings from the famous preraphaelite brotherhood.
In addition, I dont think Joyce Caroll Oats really interprets the story well, so that is no selling point. The story, a marvelous, somewhat dark poetical journey stands on its own. It doesnt need an academics interpretation. It still is a wonderful poem. It is more powerful with the original black and white - some pen and ink, some woodcut illustrations.
